"Beaumont Boys" 04/26/08

Fun fact about Mark Chesnutt: Famed photographer Keith Carter's nickname for Chesnutt is "Bono."

Mark Chesnutt and Tracy Byrd - two of our very own homegrown country superstars - headline a Crockett Street block party for charity in downtown Beaumont tonight. Special guests include Zona Jones, Britt Godwin, Skeeter Jones and the Beer Can Band and others.

Like many of us here, I've known Chesnutt and Byrd for a helluva long time. They're both great guys that blow most of that Nashville country-pop-crap away - AND they both stick to their SETX roots.

So as a friend, here's my personal message to the boys: Guys, leave the cowboy hats at home. They're just props. You don't need 'em.

Mark, remember when you used to open your shows with Van Halen's "Runnin' With The Devil" ... ? [Awesome!]. Tracy, remember when you used to tear it up and drop a Steve Earle cover into your set? [Hell yeah, dude! Steve Fuckin' Earle!].

You guys have never been like all those other cookie-cutter hat acts - and you both have always done things your own way. Seriously, ditch the hats. Your authentic Texas music and entertaining stage shows never needed them. Just get out there and rock-n-twang. And let the hair fly free.

Info: The Beaumont Boys Bash starts at 4:30 p.m. today at Crockett Street in downtown Beaumont. Advance tickets are $12 [available at Fast Lane stores] and the at-the-gate price is $15. For more details, check out the Beaumont Boys site at: http://www.beaumontboys.com/home/
