Boomtown Fest Saturday 05/17

Reminder: Boomtown Fest takes place May 17 in various locations of beautiful downtown Beaumont, Texas.

On the live music showcase front, holy crap, a lot of cool bands are playing, including:

Cousin Phelpy - local alternative rock band featuring cousins Carlo and Greg Busceme with Britney Flippo. This band is one to watch. More on them in a later post. Bookmark their myspace

Drummond Hill - SETX native Steven Woodard offers an electro-rock project featuring a mix of African beats and mellow voices. Check out his myspace

Fuzion of Elements - performing rock, soul, funk, country, hip hop, rockabilly, and more. Check out their myspace

Happy Mothers Day - Ben Jennings, Brandon Perkins and AJ Wiebusch describes their acoustic music as "alt-country tinged freak folk." Check out their myspace

Mike Truth & The Replacement Killers - Austin-based act blends funk, rap, rock, jazz and r&b. Check out their myspace

Molly Maguires - the SETX instrumental surf-punk giants rock and rule any stage they hit. Bookmark their myspace now.

Nice Work If You Can Get It - performs funky blues. Check out their myspace

Robert Frith - winner of the 2007 Texas Singer/Songwriter of The Year Award. The Port Arthur native mixes Cajun, zydeco, country, southern rock, soul, gospel, bluegrass and more. Visit his web site at robertfrith.com, or check out his myspace

The Scraps - one of my most favorite local bands. The Scraps deliver a muscular mix of swaggering punk, rock and blues and they are determined to tear the fuckin' roof off the place. Mark my words, these guys are going to be huge. Go bookmark their myspace right this second.

Section 8 - classic rock covers from the '70s and '80s. See 'em on youtube

Tim Apshire - Go check out his myspace already.

Uptown - same for them. Do the myspace thing.

We Were Wolves - another important rock band from Beaumont - featuring my buddy Jake Hooker. Bookmark their myspace too.
