Scream At 25

All the posts I've seen on "Scream" debuting 25 years ago today have name-dropped (rightly so) director Wes Craven - but none have even mentioned writer Kevin Williamson. Without his original screenplay (titled "Scary Movie") there would be no "Scream" franchise. Respect!

It's the end of the line for one of the world's most classic forms of travel, the Orient Express. Established in the 1880's, the Orient Express rolled from London or Paris to Istanbul. The Dark Ages: Exploring Medieval Horror

By Brent Snyder (2/28/2022) In the Dark Ages, just trying to survive day to day must have been like living in a horror movie. The Middle Ages were a time of superstition, starvation, sickness, violence and widespread belief in the supernatural - a perfect setting for horror films. And featuring a roster of folklore frights likes trolls, goblins, vampires, werewolves, giants, dragons and witches, the Dark Ages provide fertile ground to mine for horror stories. Consider that the classic tale of Beowulf and Grendel is at it's core about battling a monster. From the classic fan favorite "Army of Darkness" (original working title "Medieval Dead") to more recent productions like "The Head Hunter," medieval horror films range from psychological thrillers and supernatural fantasy flicks to action-packed monster mashes. The Scraps Tonight Muthafuckas!

SETX's rocking The Scraps appear in concert tonight at The Art Studio on Franklin Street in beautiful downtown Beaumont for the kick-off party to this weekend's Boomtown Film & Music Festival. If you've never seen The Scraps before, here's your chance to check 'em out - and while you're at it, pick up a copy of their CD "Static Revolver." This is it. The Art Studio Inc. on Franklin in beautiful downtown Beaumont, Texas hosts an SETX rock showcase tonight [July 19] with We Were Wolves, Crazy Ivans, Cousin Phelpy, Obscene Orchestra and Nugs McSplendy & The Narcoleptics. The all-ages show starts at 8 p.m. and cover is $5. Oh yeah, it's BYOB for 21-and-up and free hot dogs for everyone! Mmm ... wieners.

T he slasher "requel" stars Elsie Fisher as the new "Final Girl" facing off against the notorious chainsaw-wielding serial killer Leatherface. Some fans love it (I count myself in the "love it" camp) while others criticize it for a variety of reasons, including the circumstances that bring the Final Girl and Leatherface together. Produced by Legendary and directed by Fede Alvarez ("Evil Dead," "Don't Breathe"), the new TCM centers on a group of young entrepreneurs from "the city" who plan to buy up foreclosed property in the "ghost town" of deep rural Harlow, TX. - and turn it into some kind of hip progressive boho tourist destination.
