Trifecta: Following Free Guy And The Adam Project, Ryan Reynolds And Shawn Levy Reunite For Deadpool 3
By Brent Snyder (3/14/2022)
The news came as no surprise to anyone already enjoying the quippy and action-packed "The Adam Project" on Netflix - that star Ryan Reynolds and director Shawn Levy were next tackling "Deadpool 3." Indeed, many headlines on stories about "The Adam Project" proclaimed things like "Ryan Reynolds Proves He Can Do A PG-13 Deadpool."
(Despite the fact - or just forgetting - that Reynolds already released a PG-13 "Deadpool." Rather, he released a brilliantly recut PG-13 version of "Deadpool 2" titled "Once Upon A Deadpool." But we're getting bogged down by yet another example of lazy pop culture journalism.)
In addition to being the third movie in Reynolds' popular Marvel movie series, "Deadpool 3" will also be the third time he and Levy have worked together. Previous to "The Adam Project" the Canadian dynamic duo delivered the hit video game flick "Free Guy." The announcement of the Reynolds/Levy trifecta came from Reynolds himself on Twitter. "The third film in my Shawn Levy trilogy will be a tad more stabby," he wrote - sharing poster-style artwork of Deadpool, Adam and Guy standing together.
Tim Miller ("Sonic The Hedgehog," "Terminator: Dark Fate") directed the first "Deadpool" movie in 2016. David Leitch ("John Wick," "Hobbs & Shaw," "Atomic Blonde") directed "Deadpool 2" in 2018 and new scenes for "Once Upon A Deadpool" that same year.
Disney's purchase of Marvel (joked about in "Once Upon A Deadpool") put the timeline for a third Deadpool movie in flux, but in 2020 it was reported that "Bob's Burgers" writers the Molyneux Sisters were developing a script.
Levy's previous directing credits include "Stranger Things," the "Night at the Museum" movies and the boxing robot flick "Real Steel," which starred Reynolds' bromance partner (and "Wolverine" star) Hugh Jackman. Levy told the Hollywood Reporter that he dreamed of making a team-up movie with Reynolds and Jackman co-starring together. "What we want is to fold it all in together and make a big, fat bromance sandwich of a movie," he said. "I don't know exactly what it's going to be, but I know it needs to be me who directs it."
