Mario Bava! Space madness! Sabotage! And shambling reanimated corpses on a mysterious planet of the dead! A sci-fi class-sick that may or may not have inspired ALIEN!
Based on Renato Pestriniero's short story "One Night of 21 Hours," Mario Bava's atmospheric Italian/Spanish film Planet of the Vampires (original title Terror in Space) features a mix of retro-future and gothic horror elements with eye-popping production and lighting design. And yes, viewers familiar with the genre will no doubt notice what appear to be direct influences on later films - especially Alien and Prometheus.
