"The Raid 2" (2014 aka "The Raid: Retaliation") is simply one of the most innovative and exhilarating action movies since John Woo's "Hard Boiled." Writer/producer/director Gareth Evans refashions a previously written standalone script ("Berandal") and turns it instead into a continuation of his action epic. Iko Uwais' policeman from the first film now goes undercover to expose dirty cops while caught in the middle of a gang war between rival factions. The sets and action sequences are bigger and bolder and cinematographer Matt Flannery provides stunning backdrops for some of the most gorgeous shots ever seen in an action film. The movie is so massive and has so many amazing martial arts action sequences it feels like three movies have been blended into one awesome supercut. It's one of those rare instances when the sequel is superior to its origiinal. Four 1/2 Stars - Brent Snyder
